Who I am

I am ready to become a teacher and I really want my own classroom after more than a year of substituting. Now that I have my certification I want this second career of mine to officially start. I thought that I would be a good candidate for an English teacher because of my many years as a reporter. I read all the time and I love literature and poetry but what's surprised me most of all since I started substituting is how much I enjoy the kids and how much I care about them. I really want to see them succeed, I really want to teach them a love of reading and writing, if they don't have that love already, and I know that I can bring a creative edge to the classroom. I was a creative reporter and writer. I see those skills as being well suited to the classroom. I'm naturally curious and I am interested in what the children have to teach me as well as what I have to teach them. I know that not every day will be fulfilling and productive and that there will be some days when I will wonder if I'm making any difference at all but I can certainly try.
